Join the Center for Archival Research and Training (CART) and the Humanities Institute (THI) for the inaugural meeting of the CART Archives Reading Group! We will be discussing the 2021 essay "The House Archives Built" by Dorothy Berry. You’ll be introduced to some basic concepts of archival theory and practice, and be invited to think big about what archives are, and what they could be.

Artists, history buffs, photographers, grad students / post docs / faculty / undergrads … all are welcome to join!

Light refreshments will be provided. Please register on this page so we can get an accurate headcount.

Land Acknowledgement

The land on which we gather is the unceded territory of the Awaswas-speaking Uypi Tribe. The Amah Mutsun Tribal Band, comprised of the descendants of indigenous people taken to missions Santa Cruz and San Juan Bautista during Spanish colonization of the Central Coast, is today working hard to restore traditional stewardship practices on these lands and heal from historical trauma.

The land acknowledgement used at UC Santa Cruz was developed in partnership with the Amah Mutsun Tribal Band Chairman and the Amah Mutsun Relearning Program at the UCSC Arboretum.
