Join UCSC History professor Ben Breen, who will discuss his forthcoming book, Tripping on Utopia: Margaret Mead, the Cold War, and the Troubled Birth of Psychedelic Science, and his research using archival materials at UC Santa Cruz. Professor Breen has been at UCSC since 2017. His work includes the histories of the Portuguese, Spanish, and British empires, as well as the history of science, medicine, globalization, and the impacts of technological change. 

 

Selected archives from UCSC Special Collections & Archives will be available for browsing. 

 

Tripping on Utopia: Margaret Mead, the Cold War, and the Troubled Birth of Psychedelic Science will be published by Grand Central in January of 2024. More information and pre-order link are available on Breen’s website.
