Registration is required. There are 27 seats available.

This workshop is suitable for attendees curious about where and when it may be appropriate to use generative AI (GenAI) technologies as part of their research or assignment-completion process.

The workshop will start with a basic description of large language models, and build on that foundational understanding with a discussion of strengths and challenges in the academic space. We’ll consider plagiarism, privacy, research integrity, and sustainability. Attendees will learn strategies for identifying when it is appropriate to conduct a literature search, or when a prompt may suffice. We will also introduce UCSC AI use policies, and learn how to appropriately cite AI tools when use is appropriate.

Sign off with a basic understanding of GenAI, and knowledge that will help you use these tools as ethically as possible. This includes familiarity with UCSC policies, attribution strategies, and campus support services.
